Come check out Plone CMS, an open source content management system used by organizations as diverse as NASA, Marriott, Continental Airlines, Oxfam, eBay, Trolltech, Nokia, and Creative Commons. Supported by thousands of developers from around the world, Plone is one of the most sophisticated, popular, and easy to use Enterprise Content Management Systems on the market today.

Web applications developer, Ricardo Newbery, will be demonstrating the latest bleeding edge features available in the soon-to-be-released version, Plone 3.0, and, if we have enough time, maybe even demo a new local web service under development based on Plone technologies.

Special note for librarians: Plone is also the technology being promoted by the Plinkit Public Library Collaborative, a multi-state cooperative started by the Oregon State Library.

After the presentation we will head down the street to O'Kanes Pub (at McMenamin's) for socializing around the outdoor fireplace!

April 2007 Meeting Topic: Flex on Ruby with Simeon Bateman. Simeon Bateman is a 9 year veteran of the Portland web development scene. By day he is the Director of IT for Business Transitions LLC of Portland. By night he is owner and operator of Simb Development, a web development and consulting company. Simeon is also a certified Adobe Flex trainer and travels the country enabling others to build RIA's utilizing the Adobe Flash Platform. Because of his efforts in the Adobe community Simeon has also been bestowed the title of Community Expert, a title he is very proud of. When not on his pulpit, speaking the gospel of technology, Simeon loves to be at home with his wife Carrie and new daughter Ana. Simeon also enjoys spending time in the outdoors playing with his 4-legged family members, his 2 black labs Ellie and Molly.

May 2007 Meeting Topic: Eclipse with Nat Papovich. Come learn about the Eclipse platform. Topics will include installation and configuration, the Web Tools Project, and common plugins (CFEclipse, Subversion, XML Buddy, Flex Builder, Quantumdb). After the presentation we will head down the street to BBC for socializing!

February 2007 Meeting Topic: "Building Database-Driven Flex Applications" (presented by Randy Smith) This will be a "gentle" introduction to Flex Builder 2. Randy will walk us through the Flex Builder IDE and show us the basics of creating your first Flex RIA. If you are ready to get started with Flex download the 30-day free trial of Flex Builder from Adobe's website and start playing! We had a "show and tell" session demonstrating Flex applications built by some of our members including a Measure 37 claim application, a Sales Force automation & Territory management application, and a Charting applet.

March 2007 Meeting Topic: SEO with Andre Jensen (Global Strategies International) In this month’s meeting we will learn what barriers exist on many Websites which hinder the Search Engines from fully crawling and indexing a site, what to avoid when designing a site, and how to maximize your site’s potential. Areas we will discuss include internal site navigation, multiple domains, proper redirects, spamtastic techniques (to avoid), and other infrastructural issues.

January 2007 Meeting With the release of IE 7, the debate about which browser is the most user-friendly and most secure has gone to the next level. For web programmers and designers the browser wars have tremendous impact on our responsibilities. Join us to discuss the pros and cons of each platform, design considerations, and cross browser compatibility issues that "irk" you. Or just come to vent!

December 2006 Meeting The topic this month is public wifi. (Big thanks to Ricardo for suggesting this topic!) Frank Miller from BendBroadband will be joining us to talk about their new "Instanet To Go" offering and other exciting technology that will be coming to Bend in the near future!
